Barajou no Kiss has been licensed
for English release by Viz!

Buy it November 2014!

If anyone knows us here at Turtle Paradise, you’ll know that little, if anything, gives us as much joy as when a series is licensed for English release. So all of our congratulations to Viz media and Ms. Aya Shouoto for (legally) bringing yet another excellent series to North American shores!

I hope you all will join us in purchasing the series when it becomes available on bookshelves. (And if you’re not sure where to buy it, we’ll help you find links when they’re available!) Of course, please support the author when the official release is available. We will be removing the links to our downloads as the new volumes are released.

Now, to close the curtain on this lovely series. (Appropriate, or ironic? You be the judge.)

We hope you enjoy the final, super-sized chapter of Barajou! It’s been a fun few years, everyone. Again, we urge you all to delete these chapters once they’re out for English release (if only to spare me the humiliation of airing out my translation errors HAH) and purchase them once they’re available in your area. We hope you enjoyed the series.

(Fair warning: Don’t come in here with excuses as to why you can’t afford it or why you’re pissed about the series being licensed in general, okay? Those comments are not welcome here. Don’t make me feel any guiltier about posting this chapter.)

Punctuality is overrated

Apologies first and foremost to any Barajou fans who happen to follow our twitter/tumblr– we announced that we’d have a new release the day before yesterday, but things have a way of not panning out when you announce them in advance because Nature is a troll and takes joy in our sorrow. Screw you, Nature. Asshole.

So let’s talk about TODAY’S release! This one is a little different from the norm, in that it’s not actually an official release. It’s confusing. Let me explain.

First, it’s Barajou-related! Awesome! With only one chapter of the main story plus two little side-stories left to go, we’re nearing the conclusion of what I feel no shame in admitting is one of my favorite series. That said, there’s a TON of bonus material available that has never surfaced on the internet — extra comics from the magazines, exclusive promotional material from Asuka magazine’s partner shops, etc, mostly because they were very strictly goods that you could only get in Japan. It’s lucky for you guys that Melly and I are the biggest Barajou fans who ever lived, because we’ve got most of it, AND HERE WE ARE TO SHARE. It’s not very long, and certainly not all-inclusive (VERY close, though!), but this was the best way we could think of to (preemptively) send off the series, so have an early parting gift from us to every Turtle that’s stuck with us from the beginning. Thank you all for putting up with our crap attitudes (or mine, at least lol), our hiatuses, and our shameless fangirling. I think it goes without saying that this is not a normal release, so please do not upload it to any of the manga reader sites. I know it will inevitably find its way up there for whatever reason (likely within seconds of my posting it), but do us a solid and stoke a tiny ember of rage inside your hearts on our behalf once it does, and know that a fiery furnace blazes inside ours in turn.

Massive thanks to Melly for putting up with my crap last night when I kept saying, “Hey, let’s scan in THIS!” over and over again. Because of her hard work, this is an 18-page release instead of the original 4. <3 All pages were edited and scanned by Melfra, and yours truly handled the typesetting and translations, where needed. Enjoy! Oh, and you'll find some oversized notebook scans in there as well-- just in case you'd like to print out your own Barajou-themed stationery! That said, there's a more pathetic side to this story. We'd love to have released an actual chapter of... Something or other for this release, but alas. We have no editors. The last chapter of Barajou plus her side stories are just sitting there... Untouched. Because no one will take the editor tests! We're certainly in need of the help-- between completing some of our longer-running series and others being licensed (Looking at you, JunKare! Don't forget to get your preorders in!), we're in a position where we could potentially take on more projects, but our limited staff is making that difficult. So if you're interested and have the skillz, hop by the forum and take a stab at the test! Also, we pay for all of our costs out of pocket-- books to scan, extra materials to procure, and site hosting, of course, so please consider donating if you enjoy our translations/series. ^^ Five bucks could buy a good-sized drink at Starbuck's, so skip out on one this year and float that fiver our way, eh? =D (And even if this is one of our smallest releases, it's also one of the most expensive! All of the individual components, the booklets, and the mini-fliers all had to be ordered through Yahoo Auctions with a deputy service. That comes out to over $25 a page! Let no one question our dedication to The Cause.)

Hello, and Goodbye!

Before we get started, I’d just like to say…

Congratulations to Yen Press for Licensing Junketsu Kareshi (hereafter He’s My Only Vampire”) for English Release!

How exciting is that? Now, since it’s being licensed for English release and I have approximately ZERO interest in competing with the English market, Turtle Paradise will be dropping the series effective immediately. (Boy… Now I don’t feel so bad for not getting started on volume 5! WHAT A CLIFFHANGER THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN.) We’ll be removing our downloads very shortly here as well. In the meantime, thank you all for the support in the very short (lol) tenure since we took over. Now get your wallets ready, and get to preordering!

Now that we have that out of the way, it’s release day! Just one for now, but hey, one is better than none, right?

That’s it. That image is the chapter. Tenjoh does things, Anis gets ROYALLY pissed– well, given where the last chapter left off, is that really any surprise? Here’s where the big reveal comes in, but it’s not until the next chapter (THE END ;_;) where we find out exactly how broken Tenjoh really is. BARAJOU, YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MY ONE TRUE LOVE. (Maybe Melly and I will take a picture of all of our swag to commemorate the final release, lol) THAT SAID, this chapter! Was edited by Egotist, typeset and translated by yours truly, scanned by Melfra, and QC’d both by Melfra and newcomer ToxicStream! Enjoy!

To close us off, here’s where I introduce our new staff! Please welcome ToxicStream, our newest (and coolest! SORRY MEL) QC, and JV, who just took (and passed!) the typesetting test last night. So now we’ve got two QCs, two typesetters, and… NO EDITORS? Yes, that’s right! We’re still in dire need of editors for our latest and greatest series (many of which we haven’t even announced!), including the last chapter of Barajou… So if you’ve got the time and feel up to helping out, please drop by the forum and take the editing test.

To preface today’s release, the rumors of our death have been greatly exaggerated. The rumors of our inactivity, however, have not! Due to lack of activity on my part (no Reb = no translations, don’tcha know) mostly thanks to my wildly inconsistent schedule at work, the group kind of came to a standstill while I adjusted to having a “grown-up” job. I’d apologize, but the big, fat paycheck I get in my bank account every other week prevents me from feeling remorse.

That said, welcome back to release Mondays!

Our first release, glorious SEDS! The glorious exploits of Lina Inverse were brought to you by Tom the Mighty pulling editing duty, typeset by Zippy (who has since left us for better things, sobb), scanned by Melfra, and translated by yours truly. Not one of my favorite chapters, admittedly… But any excuse to spend some time with the goddess of destruction is a fair one by my standards.

A new chapter of Barajou! Hurray! I feel terrible for neglecting this as we have… Even to the point that people were going to other groups asking them to pick it up where we left off, wowsers. But worry not, folks! Translations are now complete for this volume, and we should reach the conclusion of the story in fairly short order. (I’ll be sad to see her go… Sob. ANIS, YOU ARE MY QUEEEEN) But anyway! This chapter was edited by Moonshayde (!!!), translated and typeset by yours truly, and scanned and QC’d by glorious Melfra who is now making me cookies.

That said, enjoy! See you all next week for new releases! (And it WILL be next week. We’ve actually got a backlog going for once!)

Also, we need staff! It’s down to me and Melly now for the most part, and progress is a transient thing when your translator is too busy typesetting to translate and your scanner’s waffling between “AM I EdIT? aM I scAn???” Also, welcome our newest typesetting trainee, Ingrid. Join the ranks today, and enjoy all the perks that come with being ONE OF US. ONE OF US. ONE OF–
(Disclaimer: Perks do not include delicious, fresh brains.)

Crawling back the way turtles do

Welcome back to Turtle Paradise! Ironically, our first release after our revival is the same as our last release before our hiatus. (Well, Awai no Mori notwithstanding. We’ll get to that later, though.) First off, Barajou! BABY, I MISSED YOU SO MUCH.

A few quick announcements, which I’ll keep brief here in the interest of letting you guys get to the good stuff without being bogged down by information overload– firstly, we’re back! Hurray! We, ah, originally had quite a few releases planned for today, but I was hell-bent and determined to release something on Monday, and our east-coast friends will surely note that I’m cutting it a little close. Woops! But we’re moving back to a Monday release schedule, so check back in next week for even more of the stuff you know and love, and maybe even a few things you might have forgotten. Also, oneshots are now on the reader, so go check those out if you haven’t already!

As for why the hiatus, well… Shite hit the fan for me November of last year (it always hits around November, doesn’t it?), and without going into the gory details, I had to take a sabbatical to take care of my mother, and I found that my mood was affecting my translations and the quality of our work in a bad way, so I decided to take a break until I was sure I could separate the two. I tried to ease myself into the process for this year’s Twelve Days event and that, uh… almost worked, but not quite. So fast-forward four months and here we are, hopefully refreshed enough to take on the challenges of scanlating once again. To anyone who’s applied for a position in the meantime and I callously ignored, please accept my apologies. Like I said, I disappeared from basically everything but Twitter and Tumblr.

And that’s enough of that, I think! Look forward to a mega-release next week to make up for the spartan quality of this one. For the moment, we’re looking at Mebius Gear, Junketsu Kareshi, a visit from an old series, and a handful of one shots, SO GET PUMPED, Y’ALL. WE’RE CELEBRATING IN STYLE.
