Summary:
Kain Blueriver wanders space with his beloved space ship, the Sword Breaker, home to his AI companion Canal, helping people in need. Running the gambit from body guard to rescuing kidnapped children, Kain’s on the job — at least, when Canal extorts him into it. Joined by Millennium Feria Nocturne, a former detective who knows her way around a pistol (but is fiercely allergic to men), and Anise, a child with extraordinarily powerful psychic abilities, they travel in search of the next big meal-ticket. But when a powerful crime syndicate decides they know too much, they discover some coincidences are too powerful to ignore, and find themselves confronting their pasts, and bonds they never knew they had…

    I’m glad people like it and your producing it for them, but If I remember this corrected, now mind you this was when I was in 1995 or 1996 and if I remember correctly this series never finished. It got canned, and it didn’t make enough money so it was dropped in the book I originally read it in. I think it was in dragon jr. or something. But we are talking about 15 years ago and I admit my brain is a bit fuzzy. So explain to me did this really end or does it just cease to exist at one point. I’d hate to pick up the light novels and find out I’ve wasted my time reading a story that just quits.

    The other thing that bothered me was this was kind of a sell out piece done in the day when everyone was doing gundams and scifi over in Japan. Mobile Suit Gundam had just made a record amount of money and all the sudden everyone wanted a piece of the action.

    What amazes me is you actually found this. Where was it in the bottom of some bargain manga bin? I can honestly say Slayers is much better. Xellos as a spaceship come on folks mazuko space ships suck. Ruby Eyed Shabrinigdo as the enterprise is a horrible idea. Only thing worse than Mazokou spaceships are flying tree spaceships with whiny little brats in them that want to turn everyone into plant people. 10 points if you can remember what manga that was from.

    The boy is a reincarnated Lina, that is in love with a Amelia clone. I can’t remember if this was just in the anime or if it was in the manga too but there is some part that Lina actually sees Kain too. Well anyway I hope this one works out for you. I’d like to know though about the ending I might pick it up again just to see that because for the life of me I can’t remember how it ended.

    It’s Slayers in Space. If you’re wanting more than that, well lol, you’re not gonna find it in LU.

    Just looked it up. Can’t find anything on the manga, only that the ANIME died at episode 26(studio fire) but the original novels were completed.

    Only thing I can think of is that they were talking about the special volume… which admittedly was a pinch on the odd side and ended rather abruptly. The core series doesn’t suffer for it, though! =D

    Ah, thanks so much for doing Lost Universe. I was really sad when the original group dropped this manga abruptly years ago without getting started on the final volume, leaving me in cold. I’m looking forward to future chapters!

    Thank you so much for scanlating Slayers and Lost Universe. I’m a huge fan of Kanzaka’s work, keep up the good work!

    @Neko

    First of all…can you elaborate on the “mazoku space ship” thing? I can’t really make out what you are talking about.

    I don’t think Lost Universe is derived from Gundam…most likely from Tenchi Muyo or Star Wars, because Gundam is a mecha anime, and there is no mecha in Lost Universe.

    And I don’t know about Kain is in love with Millie or not, but I do want to say that I agree he’s Lina’s reincarnation. I believe Lost Universe in one of Lord Nightmare’s worlds.

    …some people say Kain is Lina’s son….but I think their time frame seems to be a bit too far apart for them to be related. (Lost Universe met Slayers during a special of something, so that doesn’t count….I think.)

    Since I’m waiting for new scanlation like the rest of people, I don’t know how the manga ended. I think you are lumping the anime and the manga together…the anime was expecting a sequel/movie but it was underfunded. And the manga is quite different from the anime in a couple of aspects. Although I do agree slayers is the better series (…not anymore though, I hate the recent seasons with passion), I think this series is more than what you given it credit for. You should definitely give it another go.
