Author: Shouoto Aya (?音?や)
Licensed by YenPress! Buy on Amazon || Buy at Barnes and Noble

Kana Takachiho, despite her disadvantages, is a pretty nice girl. She’s friendly, outgoing, and used to be good at sports until she was injured in a freak accident, losing the scholarship keeping her in school, and earning her the disdain of her fellow classmates. Oh, and her childhood friend and (self-proclaimed) boyfriend, Aki, just so happens to be a vampire who turned her into his slave after drinking her blood on their first date. But Aki’s not just any vampire; he’s a Pureblood, and he’s participating in a game to find the seven “Stigmas” in order to wake his twin brother and Kana’s other childhood friend, Eriya, from his mysterious slumber…

At the rate you guys release chapters, you deserve to have this manga stolen. You certainly live up to your name, I’ll give you that much. Quality is great, but this is ridiculous. You hoard every Shouto Aya manga despite your lack of staff, then complain when people ask for chapters and bitch other groups out who take an interest in then *cough* Auqa Scans *cough*. You haven’t even finished the 12 days of doujinshi and its almost February. If you hate this manga that much to where you’ll make people wait a YEAR for two chapters, and then months again, just do people a favor and drop it so someone who cares can actually take it up.

Has it never occurred to anyone that scanlators feel a lot more motivated (and therefore, work that much more enthusiastically and release that much more regularly) when people do NOT abuse them?

  2. Flecia says:

Sorry, but I think both sides have a point.

Yes, scanlators do feel more motivated when people don’t abuse them. I’m one myself. But in all actuality, there’s really no reason why a group shouldn’t be able to release a chapter of a series at least once a month, or every two months. Things become a bit iffy when it goes over 6 months. Though sometimes groups do bite off more than they can chew. When that happens, its best for the the neglected projects to be transferred so others who have more time can work on them. Then there’s also joints. Its also good for the group. Look at Omari’s Sister. They transferred both Junkets+Karashi and Akagami no Shirayukihime. There’s no shame in it, its just what was best for both. Scanlators have lives, we’re not superheroes. We cant always juggle everything, and real life comes before scanlation work. And yes, it can take a while (especially if you remove god awful sfx). Hate mail can be discouraging and put you off from releasing, and people do get busy with their daily lives, but it can also be a sign that something needs to be fixed. And from a scanlators point of view, its enjoyable to see fans praise our work and thanks us, but I also know how terribly bad it is to work on a project you hate, and then get hate mail over that project. Its like a never ending spiral.

So, that being said… I think TP should take a moment and think about’s whats in their best interest. If it was me, I’d drop it so the group can have more time to focus on the projects they actually enjoy.

Just trying to be a mediator here. No offense meant towards either party. >__<"

So remind me again why I should apologize for something I literally pay both in time and money to give to other people asking nothing in return but a civil comment every now and again?

Thanks IcedPeachTea & GLMeadow for your unconditional support. <3

To Flecia and MichiMaru, thanks for the input. However, as our release record reflects, NOTHING is being released, not just Junky. (Although I loved that post at Omari. The timing is uncannily perfect, lawl.)

And to anyone else who has concerns, especially with our focus on doujinshi at the beginning of the year: You can't expect any of us to leap back into the game without a warmup, can you? Hell, I went a good two months without translating anything at all before that. Without a warmup, I start pumping out shitty translations, and I've got too much pride in my work and too much respect for the series to give them that kind of treatment.

Now, RE: Joints. Story time! We've done two joints in the past, and both ended with us inheriting grudges from people who had rivalries with the groups we worked with, which is why we won't bother with them anymore. I'm sure it doesn't work that way every time, but frankly I'd prefer not to test the theory. We appreciate the suggestions, though.

To wrap this up, yes, we're slow as hell; that gives you absolutely no right to demonize us for something we do willingly. I'm personally not a fan of the whole "worship the scanlators!" mentality, because I think that when there's a problem, especially with quality, it needs to be brought to their attention and addressed, but there is a fine line between being constructive and showing concern and being an out and out spoiled brat about it. Remember, folks: It’s just a comic book.

Once again, I’ll ask you all to look at our recent release rate (doujinshi not withstanding) and recognize that Junky is not the only series this is happening to, and take from that what you will. The majority of you are complete dolls and we appreciate your patience and support. Some others need to reassess their feelings of entitlement. Save the temper tantrums for your parents.

  4. Anon says:

Hey, that part about nothing being released is simply not true, there is decent chances for a doujinshi in the coming weeks, decent chances I would say.

  5. Kuroneko003 says:

@Rebmastu — GLMeadow’s comment pushed me over the edge. We get similar comments and e-mails, so the matter has been eating away at me for while. Junky fans in particular are a special breed. When we were doing the series, they started complaining before the chapters where even released in Japan that our release schedule wasn’t fast enough.

Anyhow…much scanlator love to you and TP. Hang in there!

  6. Lulubell says:

I understand that you have private life and etc… I know everything what it means to publish a chapter. Really. I know that editing is tiresome sometimes, especially the cleaning of a shitty big sfx and other stuffs. And translations are not always a cakewalk too. Depending on how the charachters and their soeaking style etc…
But have you considered the idea to hire another one translator, who’d have MORE free time. As far as I can see, you’re the only translator at this site. If I were you, I’d ask for help and both side would be satisfied. I mean, the readers won’t whining, and you could do work at other ~”slowly advancing”~ projects.
No offense, it’s just an opinion.

You’re right in if the chapter isn’t out in Japan, then there’s no place for whining! But that’s not the case here. I’d wouldn’t say a single word if the delaying chapters were 2 or 3.
Anyway, I’ll be patient because I’ve no choice XD

  7. rebmastu says:

Oh my gurl. <3 I'm not... "glad" to see you had the same experiences, but I'm glad to see at least it's something that's standard across the board. The "joys" of scanlating, ugh. Your post was solid gold, btw. Imma pimp that out with the next release, I think.

I have no interest in hiring another translator. I started this group five years ago with the intent of honing my own translation skills, and have neither the time nor ambition to police someone else to make sure their standards are up to snuff.

I'm going to ask again that everyone will kindly back off and give us space to get back on our feet as a courtesy. I'd also like to remind our commentators that this is not a business, and none of you are shareholders. You get what you get when we have time for it.

  8. GLMeadow says:

@Kuroneko003: I wanted to make sure there isn’t some terrible misunderstanding here… When you said that my comment “pushed [you] over the edge” what was it that I wrote?

I’m just wondering if perhaps you were seeing what I had quoted from Viserys (comment from 7:22 PM on Jan 20th)… What *I* wrote started with “Chill. Has it never occurred… [etc.]”

I didn’t want anyone thinking I was the one who’d written something so spoiled and vitriolic as that earlier comment (by Viserys).

  9. Scarlet says:

Hii!!! It’s been awhile, and I just wanted to pop in and say I hope that you guys aren’t having a tough time right now… real life can all be hard, and I think we should respect that. Thanks and thanks again for all your hard work and I look forward to your releases, but please do take your time :)

  10. Luna says:

Thank you very much good by

  11. erule says:

i would also love it if you could update pureblood+boyfriend, super darling! and barajou no kiss…its great manga. Thank you very much for your hard work :)

  12. AiXXXMiu says:

I think sometimes we all take time for granted like how something you thought was only going to take a small amount of time ends up taking days to complete. I have never been a scanlator, but I’m sure this applies and not only to scans but general life, work, tasks etc. that they also have to do aside form scans. Considering that and if you were in their position being pushed to do scans. I can see why they don’t enjoy it, but I also know how frustrating the wait can be. Perhaps instead of demotivating the scanlators, we should motivate them to actually enjoy doing it :)That way we can all be happy!

That said, thanx for the always quality work and I look forward to the next chapters!

(And I am not trying to offend anyone or address anyone in particular)
