Rifflers are a girl’s best… Wait, what the hell is a riffler?

Sometimes when I look over certain chapters of Slayers (or anything that involves crazy, back-water bandit types, really), I find myself crippled by this petrifying fear that maybe, just maybe I’m slathering that bandit-talk on a little thick.. But that’s just irrational, right? It’s all in my head… right? Aw, whatever, man! Nobody inserts a bandit into a comic (especially SLAYERS) to be taken seriously! Which segues nicely into our new release. Huh. Go fig. (Also, this chapter has some GREAT stand-alone art, especially at the beginning/end. Just thought I’d point that out.)

“Breach the Impregnable Fortress!”

This chapter! Was brought to you by the editing talents of Tom the Mighty, typeset in a SPESHUL GUEST PERFORMANCE by BurntPie (before he went to the land down under, CAN’T YOU HEAR, CAN’T YOU HEAR THE THUN-DURR), QC’d by both Melfra AND Anon (who also helped with chapter 2! Thanks, Nanners! I didn’t mean to neglect you last time, mooches. <3), and... That's it. That's the show. Psst-- All this Slayers is GREAT, but do you want us to work on other series, too? So do I, but our staff has literally VANISHED! Except for, like, Tom, but he doesn't count. (Sorry, Tawm.) We need EDITORS, and likewise for typesetters! (A QC or two would be great, too!) I've got six chapters of this, that, and the other thing sitting in my translations queue and by GOD, I want to see these things on paper! Yeah, I'm lookin' at you, JunKare. Also, please consider applying if you'd like to assist with the 12 Days of Christmas this year! We've got a bunch of great, rare stuff sitting on the backlog that we'd like to have see the light of day this holiday season. =3 If you're interested in applying for staff, head over to our forum to take the test! (We appreciate the offers we’re getting in the comments here, but that test is preeeetty important.)

To preface today’s release, the rumors of our death have been greatly exaggerated. The rumors of our inactivity, however, have not! Due to lack of activity on my part (no Reb = no translations, don’tcha know) mostly thanks to my wildly inconsistent schedule at work, the group kind of came to a standstill while I adjusted to having a “grown-up” job. I’d apologize, but the big, fat paycheck I get in my bank account every other week prevents me from feeling remorse.

That said, welcome back to release Mondays!

Our first release, glorious SEDS! The glorious exploits of Lina Inverse were brought to you by Tom the Mighty pulling editing duty, typeset by Zippy (who has since left us for better things, sobb), scanned by Melfra, and translated by yours truly. Not one of my favorite chapters, admittedly… But any excuse to spend some time with the goddess of destruction is a fair one by my standards.

A new chapter of Barajou! Hurray! I feel terrible for neglecting this as we have… Even to the point that people were going to other groups asking them to pick it up where we left off, wowsers. But worry not, folks! Translations are now complete for this volume, and we should reach the conclusion of the story in fairly short order. (I’ll be sad to see her go… Sob. ANIS, YOU ARE MY QUEEEEN) But anyway! This chapter was edited by Moonshayde (!!!), translated and typeset by yours truly, and scanned and QC’d by glorious Melfra who is now making me cookies.

That said, enjoy! See you all next week for new releases! (And it WILL be next week. We’ve actually got a backlog going for once!)

Also, we need staff! It’s down to me and Melly now for the most part, and progress is a transient thing when your translator is too busy typesetting to translate and your scanner’s waffling between “AM I EdIT? aM I scAn???” Also, welcome our newest typesetting trainee, Ingrid. Join the ranks today, and enjoy all the perks that come with being ONE OF US. ONE OF US. ONE OF–
(Disclaimer: Perks do not include delicious, fresh brains.)

Crawling back the way turtles do

Welcome back to Turtle Paradise! Ironically, our first release after our revival is the same as our last release before our hiatus. (Well, Awai no Mori notwithstanding. We’ll get to that later, though.) First off, Barajou! BABY, I MISSED YOU SO MUCH.

A few quick announcements, which I’ll keep brief here in the interest of letting you guys get to the good stuff without being bogged down by information overload– firstly, we’re back! Hurray! We, ah, originally had quite a few releases planned for today, but I was hell-bent and determined to release something on Monday, and our east-coast friends will surely note that I’m cutting it a little close. Woops! But we’re moving back to a Monday release schedule, so check back in next week for even more of the stuff you know and love, and maybe even a few things you might have forgotten. Also, oneshots are now on the reader, so go check those out if you haven’t already!

As for why the hiatus, well… Shite hit the fan for me November of last year (it always hits around November, doesn’t it?), and without going into the gory details, I had to take a sabbatical to take care of my mother, and I found that my mood was affecting my translations and the quality of our work in a bad way, so I decided to take a break until I was sure I could separate the two. I tried to ease myself into the process for this year’s Twelve Days event and that, uh… almost worked, but not quite. So fast-forward four months and here we are, hopefully refreshed enough to take on the challenges of scanlating once again. To anyone who’s applied for a position in the meantime and I callously ignored, please accept my apologies. Like I said, I disappeared from basically everything but Twitter and Tumblr.

And that’s enough of that, I think! Look forward to a mega-release next week to make up for the spartan quality of this one. For the moment, we’re looking at Mebius Gear, Junketsu Kareshi, a visit from an old series, and a handful of one shots, SO GET PUMPED, Y’ALL. WE’RE CELEBRATING IN STYLE.

We like our bishounen beat up and covered in blood

At the risk of sounding like a complete and utter deviant, there’s nothing I like more in my shoujo than a heaping helping of bloodied-up bishounen– bonus points if there’s a bespectacled chap in their their midst, but alas, Barajou has failed me so far on this front. Or has it…? I’M LOOKING AT YOU, SCHWARTZ. START DELIVERING, OR I START KICKING.

This chapter has been brought to you by the groovy editing styles of c0de_da1sy, QC’d for max perfection by Melfra and Clov3r, and typeset and translated by the one, the only–! Well, now it’s over-hyped so I’m not going to say. That’s it for volume 8, folks! The story switches direction (and drops its nearly series-spanning focus on just one character, HALLELUJAH) starting next chapter, but I won’t spoil you on the details. (And I’d better not see any of you doing so in the comments below, either! THERE WILL BE HELL TO PAY.) By the way, we’ll be putting up the eighth volume download later today– unfortunately the internet connect I’m on right now just can’t handle it, lawl. Also, could still use an editor or two for volume 9 — still looking into abduction theories on the old batch, but I assure you, we’ve stepped up security in the meantime, so your safety is guaranteed!*
*Safety is not be guaranteed.

Speaking of last volumes, you guys might have noticed that we’ve been wrapping up a bunch of projects one after the other. Next week, we’ll be starting to churn out our new line of series! STICK AROUND, IT’S GONNA BE GREAT. That’s all for today. Happy reading!

The bird goes free

When I first started working on Birdcage, I did it because it was a challenge to translate and Takarai Rihito’s art was retro and eye-catching; but what I got out of the series was was a cast of some of the most memorable characters I’ve ever met. While I’m sure I didn’t do Kabei Yukako’s original script justice, here’s hoping you enjoyed it all the same. At last, The Sleepy Residents of Birdcage Manor can get some rest.
